WWeek Give Guide brings in nearly $4000 for p:ear

It isn't even Thanksgiving and the 2010 Give!Guide has raised almost $4000 for p:ear. Thank you to all our donors, old and new, for helping us kick off the holiday season! We're offering up some enticing incentives to show our appreciation for your generosity. Click on the postcard above to see what you can receive through p:ear. And donate to the Give!Guide here.
If you're looking for other ways to give this season, the cold weather has been a bitter reminder of our kids' need for warm clothes (hoodies, socks, gloves, hats). We're more than happy to take any donations.
Stay warm!

The Give Guide Competition: give early, win prizes

The Willamette Week Give!Guide has already kicked off and to get things rolling, they've got a little competition for early donors. Donate to the Give!Guide before November 22nd (pick p:ear pretty please!) and you'll be entered to win some swell and local treats. So for all the people that do their holiday shopping in June, you can get your holiday giving taken care of before Thanksgiving. Pretty nifty, eh?

Here's the details: Make a donation through the G!G between 12:01 am Monday, November 22, 2010, and 12:00 midnight later the same day, and you'll be entered to win either: (1) a full case of Rogue Spirits' Spruce Gin — artisan distilled in Oregon, this gin won a Double Gold at the 2008 World Spirits competition; OR (2) 10 10-packs of 2-zone TriMet tickets — a $205 value, they don't expire.

The only requirement is that the winner of the booze be 21.

Portland Observes Day of Homelessness Awareness

November 16th is Portland's first Day of Homelessness Awareness. Organized by JOIN and focused on what faith-based organizations are going to end homelessness, the day is meant to provoke action to help Portland's homeless population. Event organizers are asking participants to forgo a "splurge" (i.e. a coffee or snack) and instead donate to one of Portland's many organizations working with the homeless population. For more information, check out this OregonLive article on the Walk of Awareness that took place this morning. As the weather turns colder, p:ear is always on the look out for warm winter clothing especially hoodies, jackets, socks. If you'd like to make a donation, please stop by or contact us.

Genoa Dinner brings in nearly $10,000 for p:ear!

Guests enjoying wine before dinner at Genoa
We had a busy, busy week: the lovely Genoa dinner, the Willamette Week 2010 Give!Guide launch, and the Rejuvenation housewarming party. Time for the p:ear-ettes to rest and recover before the holiday season hits full speed.
A great thanks to all who turned out for the elegant evening at Genoa last Wednesday. Our guests raised nearly $10,000 for p:ear, a great boon to help out winter programs. And a big thanks goes to Genoa's Timothy Parsons for helping put on a great dinner and evening for p:ear!

Join Us For First Thursday at p:ear!

Alter the Panels with Recovery Panes Healing Arts Project featuring Kelly Williams and p:ear youth artists along with the spinning beats of DJ Xcaliber!

First Thursday, November 4th, 6 - 9pm
at the Trim-Vodjani Gallery at p:ear
338 NW 6th Ave Portland OR 97209

Recovery Panes Healing Arts Project, founded by Kelly Williams, has exposed the impact of addiction through the process of encaustics. The RACC granted project has allowed Williams to use art as a cathartic rhythm to explore personal experiences, hope, & triumph. As lives are created by moments and interactions, the panels represent the change of stories when rearranged differently. Come alter the panels and add your own touch to the stories with live music featuring p:ear youth and DJ Xcaliber, this 1st Thursday, November 4th.

Kelly Williams is a local Portland artist, who has transformed encaustic paintings into a flowing rhythm of life. Every line and gesture has been transcribed by emotion packed experiences and fleeting filled notions. Williams also holds encaustic workshops dedicated to exploring one's own inner chaos through the layers wax.

p:ear youth are 15-24 year old homeless or transitional young people that attend the educational, artistic and recreational programs at p:ear. They work independently and with guest artists, working with available materials, to create work that is expressive, vibrant and healing.
