CALL TO ARTISTS

12 Days of P:ear

The Trim/Vojdani Gallery at p:ear Pearl District, Portland, OR Regional Juried Exhibition, Call for Submissions Deadline is November 6, 2009 Open to any medium No entry fee

DESCRIPTION The Trim/Vojdani Gallery at p:ear is seeking submissions from local artists for a two-month exhibition. This exhibition will be included p:ear’s holiday event entitled “The 12 Days of P:ear.” This is a juried exhibition that will feature up to 12 artists, each of whom will have the opportunity to display work that will be available as “take home sales” and replaced with new work. Exhibition cards will be provided and distributed through our large mailing list.

ELIGIBILITY

Productive 2-D artists, printmakers, photographers, and textile artists are encouraged to apply. We are looking for smaller work that can be hung from walls, clotheslines, or possibly set on small shelves. The chosen artists’ work will also be displayed alongside work created by p:ear’s youth. The gallery space is rentable for small evening events and is often actively reserved during the holiday season; this generates unexpected exposure, but also limits our ability to display large sculptural work that requires pedestals or floor space.

WHAT IS P:EAR?

p:ear is a nonprofit program that builds positive relationships with homeless and transitional youth, ages 15 to 24, through education, art and recreation to affirm personal worth and create more meaningful and healthier lives. Each year our programs serve more than 500 homeless and transitional young people.

To truly exit homelessness, kids must develop the internal strength, skills and foresight to make healthy choices. p:ear provides a safe, non-judgmental environment in which youth are trusted to outgrow unproductive and harmful behaviors. p:ear offers individualized mentoring and education programs in a safe, reliable and intimate setting designed to foster trust, build self-esteem and to teach homeless and transitional kids – who all too often are regarded by society as disposable, "hopeless cases" – that they are valuable individuals with a future who have something vital to contribute to this community.

ARTIST COMPENSATION

p:ear is conscious of the financial needs of artists, but very aware of our own needs as a non-profit in this economic climate. Selected artists choose their commission on sales up to 30%; with all proceeds going to support p:ear’s mission and operating costs.
