A youth you regularly attends p:ear said, “This is the only safe place I have. p:ear helps me become more self-sufficient and mature.”
From
6:00-9:30 pm the Leftbank Annex (101 N Weidler), 400 guests will be invited to participate in
p:ear's story and also to examine and share their own. The Expression Bar will
help get conversations rolling as guests are given words or phrases like “In Love” or “Ask Me
Anything.” New Deal Vodka drinks in the flavor of “Truth” or “Lies” will
flow freely at the Impression Bar, along with wine from Owen Roe. With
inspirational performances by The Northwest Dance Project, 100 silent auction
items lining the perimeter, a sit-down dinner and a 15+ Live Auction, there is
sure to be something for everyone.
In
commenting on the ten-year anniversary, Executive Director Beth Burns said, “Ten
years ago we saw an need. There were thousands of homeless kids in Portland.
For many, the very foundation of their lives had been stripped away. Using the
tools of education, art and recreation – p:ear forms one-one-one
relationships with these youth.” Burns added, “These
connections give them the opportunity to rebuild their lives.”
The
Truth about Portland’s Homeless Youth
Youth homelessness in Portland rose
by over 25% in the last year alone. Your support of p:ear will make a
difference to the over 50 young adults to who come through p:ear’s center
each day and the nearly 1000 youth
who are empowered by p:ear’s programs each year. To date, p:ear
has provided assistance, education and exposure to the arts to over 2,500
youth.
